How to Change Behaviors in Children Without Threats

Bryan knew this intuitively. Did he know that it would work? No. He did know, unlike many of us parents, that there were more variables influencing Bobby’s behaviors than the teachers were aware of.

Bryan did not have to give a long-winded explanation to Bobby about how important tests were, and what would happen to Bobby if he did not take the test. He just tried something different. He knew that punishing was not getting Bobby to behave. Getting Bobby to behave was not even on his mind. He wanted to help Bobby learn.
